Professor Joseph Falzone
Peirce College
For our November 2019 member of the month, the International Atlantic Economic Society welcomes Professor Joseph Falzone. Professor Falzone’s research has been published in journals such as the International Advances in Economic Research, Economia Castilla-La Mancha, SAGE Open and Review of European Studies. Falzone’s field of specialization is labor market participation.
Why did you become a member of the International Atlantic Economic Society?
Nearing the completion of my dissertation, my advisor strongly recommended that I present a chapter of my dissertation at the Society’s Conference in Philadelphia. That was 25 years ago. I have been a member ever since.
What types of projects/research are you currently working on and what inspired/motivated you to pursue these interests?
My research focuses on the labor market. I am currently revising a paper on early retirement decisions among men in the United States. My motivation and inspiration arises from my belief that there are few decisions one makes in life more important than those regarding work and career. Indeed, decisions regarding work and career are important at both a macro and a micro level. A better understanding of these decisions can lead to a more efficient labor market.
What advice would you give to someone who is considering entering your line of work/field of study?
The landscape in higher education is changing rapidly concurrent with rapid changes in both technology and society. For those choosing to enter this field, I believe one must be willing to both adapt to these changes and be a leader of change through innovation.
Going forward, what other projects/research are you looking to or hoping to pursue?
I plan to co-author a paper on the manner in which technological change is affecting the labor market.
What’s your favorite hobby?
I am an amateur cellist and sometimes play in small ensembles.
