Vicar S. Valencia, Ph.D.
Associate Professor of Economics
Indiana University South Bend
As our October 2019 member of the month, the Society is happy to welcome IAES Associate Professor Vicar S. Valencia. Professor Valencia’s research has been published in journals such as the Atlantic Economic Journal, Review of Economics and Statistics, and Australian Journal of Management. He is on the Editorial Review Board of Small Business Economics, as well as a member of the International Atlantic Economic Society and American Economic Association.
Why did you become a member of the International Atlantic Economic Society?
The IAES, through its journals and conferences, offers a veritable platform for examining a myriad of research questions concerning the economics discipline, as well as presenting one’s own scholarship.
What types of projects/research are you currently working on and what inspired/motivated you to pursue these interests?
Right now, I am looking at the dynamics of Chief Executive Officer decision making and its consequent effect on firm conduct and performance. Having worked before in the banking industry, I have always been fascinated by corporate structures, hierarchies, and responsibilities.
What advice would you give to someone who is considering entering your line of work/field of study?
This is an exciting and fulfilling profession, with a lot of questions to ask and problems seeking solutions. I would say, continue to have the desire, diligence, and patience to learn new things.
Going forward, what other projects/research are you looking to or hoping to pursue?
Economics being a social science, I am also interested in understanding microfinance and promoting student performance and success.
What’s your favorite hobby?
I like to watch 1980s movies and TV shows.
