Eastern Europe

Through your support, the Grant Fund provides funding to partially defray the registration fees for economists from certain countries, in Eastern Europe and Turkey, and fosters economic research and related activities. The International Economic Society has awarded over $85,000 in grants to hundreds of our most deserving colleagues. These grants allow economists to attend the European conference who might not otherwise be able to attend. With your help, we can continue to support those who need assistance.

In thanks, all donations of at least $100 will receive a $10 IAES gift certificate to be used for any Society service or activity over the next year!

Your name will be listed on the “Friends of the Society” page in both journals and in the conference programs.

Africa

The intent of the John M. Virgo Scholarship Fund for African Scholars (JVAS) is to recognize Professor John M. Virgo, Founder of the International Atlantic Economic Society, for his many contributions to the dissemination of economic knowledge to audiences across continents. The goal of the JVAS Fund was to extend support specifically to scholars from Africa to facilitate their active participation in the International Atlantic Economic Society community. With the help of Attiat Ott of Clark University, the JVAS was established in 2003. Through these efforts, the Society not only was able to encourage young scholars to participate in debates relevant to their field of study, but also offered them the opportunity to reach out beyond the confines of their universities or localities. Monies in the fund help defray the costs of attending IAES conferences for economists in most financial need from African nations.

The Fund can offer the following modest support:

* Provide one or two scholars from an African country with the necessary funds to defray at least the registration cost of participating in either the North American or the European conferences of the Society.

* All applicants must submit a recommendation from an IAES member.

* The nominee is expected to participate as a presenter of his or her original research work and serve as a discussant at the conference.
