The 74th International Atlantic Economic Conference was held in Montreal, Canada, October 5-7, 2012. Over 350 delegates attended the conference to present papers and converse with colleagues in their fields. The purpose of this conference was to add to the international dissemination of the latest research in economics and finance.

Keynote Speakers:
Dr. John C. Williams, President of the Federal Reserve Bank of San Francisco
John Williams is President and Chief Executive Officer of the Federal Reserve Bank of San Francisco. Previously, he served in various positions at the Board of Governors of the Federal Reserve and the Federal Reserve Bank of San Francisco. He also served as senior economist at the White House Council of Economic Advisers. He earned a Ph.D. in Economics at Stanford University a Master’s of Science in Economics from the London School in Economics, and an A.B. in Economics from the University of California at Berkley. Dr. Williams’ research focuses on monetary policy under uncertainty, innovation, productivity, and business cycles. He has published numerous articles in leading research journals. Dr. Williams currently serves as the managing editor of the International Journal of Central Banking.
Professor Nathan Nunn, Harvard University
Nathan Nunn is a professor in the Department of Economics at Harvard University. Professor Nunn was born in Canada, where he received his Ph.D. from the University of Toronto in 2005. Professor Nunn’s primary research interests are in economic history, economics development, political economy, and international trade. He is an NBER Faculty Research Fellow, an Affiliate of BREAD, and a Faculty Associate at Harvard’s Weatherhead Center for International Affairs(WCFIA). He is also currently and associate editor for the Canadian Journal of Economics, Journal of Comparative Economics, Journal of International Economics, and Review of Economics and Statistics. In 2009, Professor Nunn was selected as an Alfred P. Sloan Research Fellow and grant recipient.

Chair: Christine M. Cumming is the First Vice President of the Federal Reserve Bank of New York, the second ranking officer in the Bank, and serves as its chief operating officer, as well as an alternate voting member of the Federal Open Market Committee. Dr. Cumming holds both a bachelor’s degree and doctorate in Economics from the University of Minnesota.
Joseph P. Hughes is a Professor of Economics at Rutgers University. His research has focused on incorporating endogenous risk-taking into the dual analysis of production to measure scale economies and efficiency in banking. He iscurrently investigating the trade-off between the scale economies and global competitiveness of the largest financial institutions and their contribution to systemic risk.
Eugene N. White is a Professor of Economics at Rutgers University and Research Associate at the NBER. Professor White has published extensively on the history of bank regulation, stock and housing market booms and crashes, and war finance. His current research focuses on the evolution of bank supervision in the United States and financial crises in Europe.
Graydon Paulin is currently a Director in the Bank of Canada’s Financial Stability Department, with responsibility for financial institution analysis. This includes participating in international initiatives on the reform of the global regulatory framework. Mr. Paulin obtained an MA in Economics from Queen’s University and an MSc in International Economic Relations from the London School of Economics.
